I had an interesting experience the other day, where I was reinvited back to an organisation that I once worked with to volunteer for their team.
Whilst I love the purpose of what they did, it didn’t resonate with me at all in that when I worked with them. I didn’t fit into the culture; a lot of the people gave me a hard time there and it was just no fun (even though I achieved great outcomes). I gave a polite decline and kept moving.
Compare that with the direct opposite including NSW Business Chamber, WeWork, Meetup and more. I have thrived in those organisations where I have delivered them results, and they have looked after me in many ways. Tom and I, even one awards with NSW Business Chamber and it’s been great.
My advice and thinking? Work with places that love you, appreciate you and you fit in. When you do this, you are likely to deliver and it’s going to be a sustainable win / win experience.
