Today Jude and I were very lucky to meet with an emerging Entrepreneur who is a very savvy Creative. She shall remain nameless, however she is awesome and we have tons of respect for her.
In our meeting today we spoke about many things for her startup. One in particular was talking Selling, Identity, Image and Impressing Potential Clients (A very important topic obviously!)
This to me is one of the first challenges any Small Business Owner should deal with. You can have the best technology, the best pricing, be the nicest person – BUT if you don’t have a decent logo, colours, business cards and the like – it’s very hard to get clients.
Of course this is easy for me to say now, I have been in business for a few years and my tools are quite evolved – however, I know people who have been around for years that still don’t quite “Look the part”.
A great example I think can be seen at Business Networking Events. Depending on the nature of the crowd, you can meet potentially dozens of people and you meet people who have amazing business cards that *YOU KNOW* are leaders and the other extreme – people with no business cards at all that don’t look that convincing.
I have won many clients (including a massive one recently) with my image playing a massive part in what I do. Be it my nice business cards, cool logo, Corporate Profiles and the like – they all come together and help me sell effectively.
I even had many situations where I could tell people are like “Who is this Edward Guy? Pheeeh” – and when they see my amazing business cards they sit back and you can seem them thinking “Oh – this guy is serious, I better listen and take notes”. This is the reaction I love – I take them seriously, they are taking me seriously and we may be able to work together and help each other.
My advice and thinking? When you are in business, selling and impressing “Potential Clients” is a key thing that we often do. Even if are on “Online” business, it’s the same thing – you got to be able to impress people and look the part. Make sure your logo rocks, you have great cards and look at “Premium High Quality” brands. Good ones are Lorna Jane, Audi, Tiffany, Prada or the like. Rightly or wrongly, people judge us on how we look, so you WANT TO LOOK AWESOME SO THEY ASSUME YOU ARE AWESOME!
Hope you enjoyed the read and thank you wonderful people! Edward Zia – Marketing Mentor and Crazy Persian.
