Hello Awesome People!
Over the past 6 to 12 Months the Awesome Martha Arifin & I have been very lucky to work with some very cool businesses. From Malaysia Airlines, to the Northern Sydney Institute (part of TAFE NSW), to KPMG and also cool mid-tier concepts such as Success Women’s Network – it’s been great being witness to top ideas from fine business people.
We have just started helping out one fine operator by the name of Mervat Labib. She has a long career in IT and heads up the AVIT (“Audio Visual Information Technology”) Business Development Team at the Harvey Norman Auburn Superstore (covering a large chunk of Western Sydney).
Martha & I met the friendly wonderful Mervat at a Business Expo and from there as you know ‘The Rest is History’. We spent time with her talking Business to Business Marketing & Selling so she can help local CFOs, CIOs and ICT Department Heads get exposed to Harvey Norman’s fine IT offering.
It was a fascinating meeting and if you told me a few months ago that Harvey Norman was growing in the business to business space I would have laughed at you. But now I am laughing at myself in the respect that they are doing it and getting traction at an impressive rate.
The Harvey Norman Auburn Superstore is totally massive with the AVIT section containing equipment in what would amount space wise being several basket-ball courts joined together. Retail is of course a very tough gig these days (thank you Internet) and the fact that Harvey Norman is targeting the Business market I think is a very clever strategy.
Business people usually have money, can obviously purchase a large quantity of units compared to say a home user and also have a greater repeat buying cycle (e.g. they are more likely to get the latest phones quicker being reliant on it’s features and productivity improvements).
It will be interesting see how this plays out and a totally clever strategy!
