Even my cat had a better dress sense that me today. Life and business in Sydney can be funny – you gotta roll with it for sure!
I have had an awesome day! A very long day, but make no mistake a – a very rewarding one. It started with a fantastic breakfast, a great client, some time to do paperwork and travelling from Parramatta (Western Sydney) to Sydney CBD to do some video work.
After a funny mix up, I got a call from a Parramatta Based Client saying ‘Edward, we have people here that you must meet right away!’
They are an extremely professional ‘Suit Wearing’ Mid-Tier client and I explained to the awesome EA (‘Executive Assistant’) calling me:
– Ahh, I’d love too, but I am kinda like in basketball / gym gear. Are you really sure?
After checking with the MD she said:
– Edward, it’s fine. Just get in here now.
After questioning this again, I then head straight to the client and had a great meeting. In full gym gear and walking in, everyone at the office had a funny giggle at me and I had a fantastic meeting there with outcomes met!
It was one of the strangest experiences I have had in a while and it was one of the few times where I was embarrassed. It was funny and it just so happened that in my gym bag I had my business cards, flyer invites and even my Surface 3 Pro. It was great being as ‘prepared’ as I could be for quite a crazy situation and sometimes in business – stuff happens and you have to just run with it.
To succeed in business, one must be really flexible, dynamic and ready to change at a moments notice. In this funny situation, it still became a Win / Win for everyone – even though it was based on people giggling at my so lack of ‘Corporate Wear’.
My advice and thinking? Be ready, be prepared, when stuff goes ‘funny’ just run with it and do the best you can.
Tomorrow, no basketball shorts!
