Tom Sullivan and the team at Canon Australia gave some great commentary on Digital Transformation. Relates to all of us!
It’s 10:05PM and my brain is still busy processing some of the great ideas I learned at Canon Australia tonight.
I was very fortunate to attend an event with Parramatta Chamber at Canon (Macquarie Park, Sydney) which was MCed by Tom Sullivan (one of their fine General Managers). There were hundreds of people, it was all taped and the key concept explored was ‘Digital Transformation’.
This is basically the process of turning a ‘Pre-Internet’ business into an agile business that highly Digital / Computerised and the like. It can mean anything as simple as using online forms instead of paper forms, right through to the complex storage, interpretation and use of client and business information.
It actually resonated with me from several viewpoints in terms of what I have been facing in my own business. For myself, I have been heavily embracing technology to grow my own business in everything from using XERO, right through to turning my knowledge into Online Videos (through Facebook and my Awesome Marketing Vault).
As Tom and other people spoke at the event, it got me really thinking about how technology can multiply the value of a company. Put it this way, if it wasn’t for Facebook – there is no way my business would be as big as it is today. That is incredibly technological being one of Earth’s largest and probably most complex Cloud based platforms.
In short, I got to see a totally different side of Canon tonight. Many would of course know them for their “Printers” and hardware, where I was impressed to see their Digital Age understanding really play out in style. The people were amazing, the content was compelling and I can’t wait till I visit again to learn more about their evolution and contributions to tech development.
My advice and thinking? Next time you see Canon technology, look behind the great equipment and explore their views of data and the value of information. It’s quite worth it and got a lot out of it.
