“I am serious and don’t call me Shirley” was easily one of the best lines ever uttered in a movie. It at least rivals, “Luke, I am your father… NOOOOO!!!!”
The topic of taking someone seriously (or not) has been something I have been going through lately in terms of the many thousands I know and work with in the awesome entrepreneur scene. The majority of people I meet are ambitious, hard-working who I not only think are totally awesome; they just are.
Then you tragically meet people who are all talk, don’t listen, wish to argue without facts & reason and are just plainly annoying people. If course if you are reading this blog, you are totally awesome (otherwise you wouldn’t be seeing my words) and I bet you know people exactly like what I am talking about.
There are some people out there that I have decided not to take seriously anymore. I certainly used too, but they just pushed me too far to when you reach that point. It’s very important knowing when to ‘write people off’ and move on I have learned in that sure it’s great to be nice to everyone; but you must make sure that the ‘tyre kickers’ don’t consume your headspace and life.
We discussed this point recently at one of our ‘PROFITABLE Marketing Forums’ and it was a funny point we all agreed on. Everyone felt the same on the issue of time-wasters and people in our live that just aren’t good for us.
I think we must be patient with people and leave the door open of course, however there is a time to when we must decide not to invest any more energy into people which can occur for a range of reasons. It can be that they don’t do what you recommend (that they agree with), they don’t pay their bills, they take advantage of your good nature or even they are mean-spirited to other people (which I have seen a bit).
You know it’s that time to move people on.
My advice and thinking? “The Price of Freedom is Eternal Vigilance” is all I can say here and make sure you know your limit and you choose to energetically move on from people who have convinced you that they are not worth being taken seriously.
Then talking to the positive, this allows you more room in your life for truly wonderful people.
Love your work, get them out of your head and stay awesome wonderful friends!
