It’s late at night and I am pumped from attending one of Paula Dunn’s Meetup events hosted at WeWork Martin Place.
Paula Dunn is a Leadership Expert and tonight she ran a great (and very popular event) unpacking key parts of her training to help one become the best.
During this experience, she made this great point repeatedly in terms of how she helps create personal change in people. Her thinking comes from the key premise of:
- “Changing people from the inside out!”
That is, Paula is focused on changing beliefs, attitudes and thinking which creates change in people.
I really liked this take in that I know that a great deal of my work comes from the outer world coming in. Although I do some on the internal thinking, MOST of my focus comes from an external viewpoint.
That is, I am the type of character that tells people reality and says “You got to do it”. In thinking about it, my tactics are more to put pressure on people externally, so their internal thinking then is forced to catch up.
From Paula’s presentation it’s got me thinking about the other side of things in helping people better manage those changes in their own internal thinking. Of course, I am all for putting pressure onto people to perform (as I do myself), I think there is lots to be said on focusing on how we think as well.
My advice and thinking? When it comes to personal change and getting results, it’s a combination of reality / external pressures on us and the way we think. As we dump old poor-quality ideas and replace them with new ones, keep the pressure on us and push ourselves to deliver outcomes, this all combines well to help us get the maximum change we want.
I have done that to myself. I have pushed myself to deliver what I must, however I am going to augment more with changes to my own beliefs and thinking. If I am thinking anything silly (e.g. scarcity thinking) that goes against what I truly want, it’s time to turn my thinking inside out.
As we move onto to new behaviours and thinking, it just sets us up to win big.
Love your work Paula Dunn and thank you! You got me thinking and very nice. You rock.
