I have to give credit to Eliza from Contours on this idea that has been a radically positive influence on my life. It’s ‘Discipline’ and when I mention to people I used to be in the Army and later worked for the Government (doing ‘Secret Squirrel’ stuff) people kind of say “Wow Ed, you must have been disciplined?”
I then answer them saying no. No I wasn’t disciplined much at all. The reason being on this one is that in say the Army – you have to exercise and be fit or they will kick you out. That is, you are forced to be fit and healthy – and if you don’t, you can’t remain there.
A good 16 years later, I go to the gym more, I am fitter, stronger, more motivated that I ever was in the Army. I consider myself now with ‘Good’ discipline and it’s my goal to work to ‘Great’ during 2016. I see discipline as:
– Doing something hard that you don’t have to do.
For example, I have no one making me go the gym, no one making me eat healthy or governing my behaviour. It’s all coming from within and I totally love it.
This brings me back to the point Eliza from Contours made to me once – you cannot buy discipline. Even if I had $100,000,000 or $10 in the bank – it’s my choice to get up early, hit the gym, work on my business and do what I need to do.
It’s very rewarding building discipline and it’s something that one builds. You just can’t get it immediately and I find it’s a result of daily pushing yourself harder and harder. As you do it, you get stronger, tougher, happier and get more results.
For me it’s fitness, doing my work fast, going to networking events late and night and keeping the videos going out. It’s not the strategy right now that is making me win (although the strategy is great), it’s the very solid implementation of that idea.
My advice and thinking? It’s true as Eliza says. Discipline is something from within and the more you grow it, the happier and more successful you shall be in life.
Thanks for the read, share this with those it can help and stay awesome!
