At least 30% of the leads and enquiries to my business are by people finding me through Google. Some of these are people who have probably heard about me through a referral and looked up my website; with the majority being people who have found me ‘cold’ so to speak.
They would have been typing various phrases into Google for Marketing help and blessed I am; my site must have appeared. My site then must have been enough to impress them to enquire through my ‘Contact Us’ page.
This is a great things from many points of view and I can tell you that being found on Google is a very important aspect of modern day marketing. Earlier this week I was very lucky to meet with Amir Noghani from Green Web Marketing (note he is a wonderful Persian guy like me) and he runs his own boutique SEO agency (FYI: SEO stands for “Search Engine Optimisation”, it’s the process of helping you get found on Google).
He has some very impressive A-list clients and we had a great conversation about SEO. When it comes to appearing on Google, there is a lot of key aspects to it which exist far beyond this article – however there are some great low cost / easy wins to help you get found to begin with. These are my top 7 to help you get started:
1. Website built with the right content and keywords: This is where it all begins. You want lots of beautiful content rich webpages so you just get found with ease. It works!
2. Google Places Detail & Listings: Make sure you have a ‘Google Place’ for your business and all the details are correct. Great photos, weblinks and the like. It helps you get found.
3. Social Media Integration: Be it Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter and the like – make sure you are sending out regular content and directing people to your page. Critical!
4. Blogging & Articles: This is a top ‘White Hat’ Google Strategy that I am a massive fan of. You write articles on your website (like you are reading now) that is not only good for sharing through social media; but it puts more content on your site to help you get found.
5. External Articles: This is where you write articles that are not on your site and linking back to your site. For example, in this article I am linking to Green Web Marketing. This is great for their SEO as it’s another article pointing to them. Google reads the lot and the more the better.
6. Lots of shared content: Sharing your content over the internet and on the main forms of Social Media is critical, the more out there – the more you can be found by Google.
7. Online Directories: The more of these you are on the better!
In fact, try Googling my name ‘Edward Zia’. Hopefully you won’t find America’s Most Wanted; but lots of people who speak highly of me (lol).
My advice and thinking? Set things up to help you get found on Google. It’s critical and it just works. If you are looking for a top agency to help you out too in this area, speak to our trusted friends at Green Web Marketing here.
Love your work, thank you for the read and happy Googling!
