It’s been a crashing Monday morning for me as I write this blog. It’s 8:49AM and I am at the beautiful Novotel Brighton Le Sands. It’s a lovely shore suburb of Southern Sydney and I just had a very rough morning on Star Wars: Commander.
You may have seen it as the video game I love to play on my phone which is a build your base and attack other people with your clan.
Over the weekend session we had a “Squad War” meaning that it was our Imperial Squad Vs another Squad. It was quite unfairly matched from the start in that they were of higher level, however we trashed them for a long time.
They just one at the end (which sucked), however they did have the massive advantage. Also at the time, my home base got totally destroyed (while I am upgrading my defences).
Basically, it was a group of LOSSES at once.
This is a very powerful metaphor for business and life! We are going great and then ‘all of a sudden’, we get a stack of losses in a row which isn’t fun at all.
I was very grumpy for about 10 minutes. I felt almost like ‘Rage Quitting’, however I have composed myself and am getting back in the zone.
Anyone can be happy when you are winning, but the true litmus test is how we come back after losses. What is also critical is how long we let it knock us around for. I used to think about losses quite a bit, with all these years helping me develop the skill to keep moving on quickly.
My advice and thinking? Wins & Losses can come thick and fast and what is important is that we have more winning that losing. I most certainly do in that case! Secondly, when we do encounter a loss, it can be a human impulse to shut down.
This is where you must be strong and really overcome that drive to win big. Also too, I like to think through why the loss occurred. In the case here, they had the massive advantage.
If anything, the other side should have won by a lot more. If you see my thinking, it’s important to accept the loss but understood why it occurred.
Next time when you win, you enjoy the win so much more. Losses happen, that’s cool, if anything that’s life! Keep going harder after the next win.
Remember as well, yours wins must either be larger or more than your losses. You do that, you keep moving forward and nice!
Love your work, thank you for the read and stay awesome friends!
