I was with some fantastic clients today who I am very lucky to work with and have lots of respect for. My client hired himself a ‘PR and Community Manager’ and are very progressive in what they do.
As we spoke, exchanged ideas and communicated; they have a massive ‘pitching’ opportunity coming up. I mean big too – if they pick this up, it will propel their business into the next level and round of success.
What was very interesting was both their behavioural / personality styles. One is the charming charismatic diplomat and the other is the direct straight-talking commander. Both styles are great in their own equal way and I love what they are all about.
As we spoke, we talked about the potential people they are going to be speaking with and how to best ‘respect’ the way other people work. I am a massive fan of DISC profiling (definitely Google it) and it’s a great tool for helping us communicate and better work with others.
In very simple terms, you get all types of different people. Some speak quickly, some speak slowly, some must talk process, some love chit chat – and it’s all different for everyone.
Basically, it’s about adapting as much as you can to other people to respect their time and how they prefer to work. Some people just cut to the chase and that is them. Hence I do the same. Some want to talk about life; and I love to participate in that.
You get many that love the detail; and I support that. Basically you get where I am going. Although I am being myself, I flex as much as I can to support those I am talking too. It’s great for them, we get more done and it feels good for me in that I know I am totally giving respect and kindness too people.
My advice and thinking? Never be a stick in the mud and just do your own thing. Work with people and really support how they like to roll. It helps you get more done in less time and it’s a massive win for everyone.
I do this as much as I can in interactions and I tell you what that if I didn’t, I would have gone totally insane by now. You get as much respect as you give!
Love your work, thank you awesome clients for the inspiration and thank you for the read!
P.S. Thank you to Vault Boy and Fallout!
