Hello Awesome People!
I get asked all the time a very potent question (that is very valid) which goes basically something like this:
“Edward, how long does it take to get successful and get tons of results & new clients from my Marketing?”
In many cases, many of my clients usually get bites after 2 – 3 months, results at about 3 – 6 months with the really consistent awesome clients having almost “Endless Waves” of clients coming to them say 6 – 12 months on. This can be shorter or longer based on many factors (e.g. the business owners input, business type and their existing reputation) and some people honestly don’t like hearing this type of answer.
At times I have even tragically had people consider hiring me, I tell them this truth, they think it’s too long, listen to a “Snake Oil Salesman” who promises them clients tomorrow – only to pay thousands of dollars to learn something that gets them nowhere.
Even more tragically, I know at least 6 that have lost their business because of bad advice they have been given (usually based on borderline illegal “Get Rich Quick” type of dodgy thinking).
The true reality is that it can be quite a process to really get sustainable results in terms of plenty of high value clients and growth once one starts effectively Marketing their business. At the start, it usually takes tons of getting one’s name and services out there again and again – until the message finally breaks through to the market and people start listening (let alone start buying).
What I have found happen over the years is that the start can be very difficult. There can be lots of marketing action, very “Little” in terms of tangible results and say at the 3 to 6 month mark work starts coming it. Once they have been strong marketers for about 6 months – small business owners can get very busy very quickly often going to the other extreme being their Marketing is working “To Well” and delivering the Product / Service can be a challenge (especially keeping up with high value clients who have demands for solutions in a given time frame).
The great news of all this is once one has a great reputation, is well known with a base of clients – provided that there is a great quality of service, business growth can occur very quickly with a consistent wave of new clients engaging them. It can be a result of really effective marketing and also strong word of mouth with clients referring friends & colleagues.
My advice & lesson from this? In short, starting out is hard – but once you “Crack It” things become much easier and more enjoyable. The more one is conscious and accepting of the reality in how long it takes to get started – life becomes easier. By being ready for a “Long-Haul” it makes everything more fun and achievable. Once the “Wave” of work is coming – it’s a very pleasant form of satisfaction indeed!
