When I was working out at the gym on this beautiful Sunday, I was sitting there and reflecting on life and some of my experiences yesterday.
Believe it or not, I don’t get trolled very often when you consider how much content I put out there. I got trolled yesterday ironically on LinkedIn, which was very funny, and the troll acted in a very subtle way.
Where I complement the troll, was the person slightly got me for a short while in that it was very subtle type of trolling. It’s possible, the person wasn’t even consciously trolling or acting with that direct intent, but it became the outcome.
Where I picked up the deception unfolding before me, I deleted the comment they left, with the person sending me a type of apology message on LinkedIn.
What got me thinking about this experience, was the fact that say 12 months ago, I would have put up with them pushing me around (be it direct intent or not). This time, when I realised they weren’t acting with good faith, I deleted their comment and they got the message I was pushing back.
(Again, this was a more subtle type of trolling, hence they got a rise out of me – I am more used to the direct out there attacks. Bravo to them!).
To me, strength is very important in building this emotionally and physically. You will have times where people with poor intent, the establishment, the government, corporations, frenemies or more; will try and exploit you.
My advice and thinking? Don’t put up with it and build your strength. Strength is build physically of course, and emotionally through pushing back. As I didn’t let this troll push me around, my strength has increased and I bet theirs has decreased (as I don’t think they are a bad person, the ramifications of their behaviour kicked in afterwards).
Love your work, be strong, win big and stay awesome!
