I have changed for the better a lot lately. As a Mentor I have been really focused on holding people accountable and especially most recently; I am getting great at having direct conversations with people.
This almost always revolves around people not doing what they must to do and me ‘hitting them over the head’ to get them active (after asking multiple times ‘peacefully’ fails).
The people I work with are just incredible and even I fall short of my own personal expectations at times; however, we must be people that ‘do’ and not just ‘talk’.
I once had a client a few years back (where I got more involved in the Consulting & Content Creation side before I moved into more Marketing & Mentoring) where it was me and a writer working for the client.
I would always be the one getting stuff done, making things happen with the writer holding things back, wanting to do more ‘analysis’, have more pointless conversations and not get anything done. I would even put them on the spot for solutions and they would come up with nothing.
This ended up in the client stagnating and this person lost the account in that they couldn’t get anything done, although they could ‘talk the big game’. They are a complete loser these days in the Sydney business scene and it reminded me as to the importance of getting stuff done, getting results and having wins on the board.
Talking to the positive; the friends I know that get stuff done and Marketing activities complete are total winners who are in the zone. Ultimately the market doesn’t pay for ideas, it pays for ideas done well.
My advice and thinking? Make sure in whatever you do, you don’t wind up the person who talks about ‘stuff’ all time. Be the one that stays quiet, but just comes up with the goods.
A great example is Online Products & Live Workshops. People talk about them all the time with few doing it. However, the ones that do it totally kick butt (believe me).
Love your work, thank you for the read, get it done and I LOVE YOUR WORK!
