If you spoke to me 1 week ago, and asked me about Professional Organisers, I would have given you a very vague answer.
If you put me on the spot and forced me to give a direct answer; I probably would have described it with aspects of Coaching, Interior Decorating and House Styling.
Whilst these answers contribute to the truth; I recently discovered they are much more than that as I spoke at the Institute of Professional Organisers (“IOPO”) Conference and got to know the amazing ladies there.
‘The Organisers’ exist to help people get decluttered, release the past and focus on the future and what they really want. On a surface level, this involves throwing out ‘unwanted stuff’. On a serious emotional level, it’s about people working through experiences linked too their previous possessions to develop a sense of closure and focus in their lives.
It’s a very unique industry serving a very unique niche. It got me thinking as to how this industry came about, who were its originators, where they are going and what it means for new entrants.
It’s a whole new world for me!
