I have been spending my wonderful Saturday getting ready for our next Live Sydney CBD Workshop on one of my favourite topics ever; “PROFITABLE Business Networking Marketing Strategies”.
In this one, I am spending time with our wonderful community unpacking Business Networking and as I was updating my presentation with my latest thinking; I had to reference Richard Branson on this one.
I have been a Branson buff for decades now (even before he came popular in the mainstream) and I have met people through the Australian British Chamber of Commerce that knew Richard before he came famous.
It spoke to the incredible networker that Richard was; in that it helped get original Virgin off the ground, that paved the way for his ever next step of success. I have opened my workshop just simply quoting Richard Branson in that it makes all my arguments for me. These are some of my favourite extended quotes I had to share from you (with thanks to the many sources that shared this thinking with thanks to Virgin and more):
“When I started networking on behalf of Virgin Music, meeting agents, persuading musicians to sign with us, finding distributors, it often involved swapping phone numbers scrawled on napkins. It was the ‘70s, after all!
These days it’s much easier to connect with people who can help you launch and grow your business.
Just think; LinkedIn, Facebook, Google+ and Twitter all provide opportunities for you to meet and interact with fellow entrepreneurs, experts in the field and innovative newcomers.
However, you go about making connections, from the very first moment you begin to realise that your idea is worth pursuing, the first step on the road to success is building a network…
…To get started, attend industry events and meet key players; join regional business associations and start learning about local market conditions.
Also remember that you can meet potential mentors at schools, clubs and business groups.
Someday, when you get stuck or when something goes wrong, these contacts will be the people you’ll turn to for help. (Finding investors is a step that follows: people buy from people, so if you’re limited in terms of who you can access, talk to and sell to, well, you probably won’t get very far.”
It’s brilliant and it makes my whole argument for me. I came successful in my own business primarily through business networking, especially through be being part of core business Chambers in Sydney.
My advice and thinking? Get into Branson and Business Networking. I like going to an event every week forever and ever.
As you meet more and more people, as time goes by the dozens turn into hundreds, which turn into thousands. It doesn’t take many of these people to refer you and become clients to make you incredibly successful.
I love it so get out there and explore. It’s not only fun, it’s very profitable and it’s helped me build a new powerful life from scratch.
Love your work, thank you for the read and my appreciation to Virgin & Richard Branson for the incredible information.
