It was a good year or two ago I started hearing the term ‘Appreciation Marketing’ get used as common language in the entrepreneur space.
I originally thought of it as something on the fringes that would come and go; only to find it really stick with a potent premise with great ideas and logic behind it.
Mala Webber is a wonderful Marketer who I have known for years. In fact, I met her just when I started my business and she has become a great friend and colleague who I take very seriously. She is right into Appreciation Marketing and I recently asked her to explain it to me.
It comes from the basic idea of rewarding your clients, friends and supporters to develop that incredible relationship / life long bond with them. This of course in turn leads to a more productive business situation.
It turns out I have been practising ‘Appreciation Marketing’ all along. Nice 🙂
Giving my knowledge on the house, great coffee cups (to those that meet me face to face), connecting people who aren’t clients and the like has earned me a reputation of someone who is trusted and liked.
Seeing this play out in a sweet and pleasant way too is with my friend Phillip Raish from WILD FX. I met Phillip not that long after I met Mala some years ago and he gave me a box of chocolates today branded with his company. It was a beautiful box, the chocolates were ‘Lindt’ quality by far (as ‘Lindt’ is my yardstick standard for assessing chocolate) and I not only enjoyed the high amounts of glorious milk chocolate hearts I ate in my car on a late Friday; but I appreciated this on a deep emotion level.
I always put it this way; You need a service and you speak to two people. One gives you the run around and say’s ‘sign here’. One tells you the lot and gives you a box of chocolates. We all know who any sane person would give the business too.
My advice and thinking? ‘Appreciation Marketing’ is a great topic and a very interesting building of foundation on ‘Relationship Marketing’.
Give to gain, be the first to give and don’t be too much of a ‘penny pincher’ when it comes to assessing where your returns come. Share what you have with the world in a commercially viable way and use it as a strategy to give you the massive edge. I most certainly have and it rocks!
Love your work, thank you Mala Webber & Phillip Raish – you rock and appreciate the inspiration!
