I usually write my blogs in the evening, however whilst I am raw in an emotion I think it’s the best time to explore, unpack and ultimately conquer it.
Yes! For me I am frustrated a bit more than usual right now. I am a Director / Dominance type of behavioural profile (in the DISC universe) which means frustration is a common emotion, however sometimes for me it gets greater than I would like.
Many of us as entrepreneurs deal with frustration at many times and I think there are lots of reasons for it that come both externally and internally. It’s an emotion that I would say is certainly good and bad and firstly, it’s great to visit Google for a definition:
1.
the feeling of being upset or annoyed as a result of being unable to change or achieve something.
“tears of frustration rolled down her cheeks”
2.
the prevention of the progress, success, or fulfilment of something.
“the frustration of their wishes”
This certainly describes me and I have never heard of the ‘tears’ of frustration till this research (but it sounds very accurate when considering all things).
When we are in business, doing marketing, living life and especially for those in big cities such as myself; we get lots of pressures applied to us on a frequent basis. This influences what we want to do, our goals, hopes and aspirations. Then as we internally think up what we want in terms of how many clients we want, the amount of money we want to make and the like it then impacts on what we set to achieve. Our own goal seeking is a very emotional process and what we come up with can be very subjective.
Then as reality hits, we feel great if we achieve them. If not, we feel frustrated! The frustration can be great in terms of giving us the ‘negative pressure’ to achieve what we want. However, it can be destructive if we are seeking an extreme goal or perhaps our means of achieving what we want is flawed. My take isn’t so much fighting the emotion so to speak; it’s listening to us to help keep us on the right track and keep our thinking productive and in the zone.
My advice and thinking? Understand your goals and think through why you are feeling frustrated. It’s good to know that and then wash it against ‘reality’. ‘Reality’ is not the most popular word in that we can think what we want, but then what objectively happens is on the other side.
If you are doing your best, chilling out, pushing yourself harder each day and taking on reason – my take is what else can you do? It’s great to push yourself, listen and learn; as well as cherish who you are and how challenging the real world can be!
Love your work, I even feel less frustrated because of writing this blog. I hope you do too!
