As I sit here with the lovely Jude after a fine dinner, we are planning and getting ready for the “Awesome Happiness and Marketing Forum II” which we are doing tomorrow (1/2 day Saturday) in the beautiful beachside Regional Centre of Wollongong (NSW).
In being with the Awesome Jude I have seen a very strong woman overtime work hard on turning her life around. With permission to tell her story, she was a Single Mother for some years 100% Dependent on Government Benefits for survival.
Before we were got engaged and started out together – she actually used to be a client and I recall her utter drive in learning what she could about Sales & Marketing from me and how she could apply it to turn her circumstances around.
In watching her from both a “Marketing Mentor” and of course being her proud “Other Half” I have seen a lot of pressures she has gone through over time. In watching her learn how to get her basic Elevator Pitch right, get business names, build logos, get business cards and the lot – I have seen her go through the difficult phases of startups.
Right too as well getting her first original base of clients and moving from there – it reminded me of how hard it is starting and out what I went through.
What I find unique about her (as well as being a great base of entrepreneurial success) is how she can just “Handle” the “Bad” times of starting out in business. Be it the rejections, having no money and having to work hard to build her profile.
My advice and learnings from watching her? If you are starting out – it takes guts, commitment to make it. You can do it, but you really must WANT IT. If you have been around for a while in business never forget how hard it’s starting out.
