Hello Awesome People!
It’s been a very long few days for me with the release of Windows 10. It’s been a ‘Free Upgrade’ to all of us who were stuck with that darn Windows 8.1 or even to our Enterprise friends who may even still be using Windows 7.
I have been busy upgrading my systems, learning the system architecture (i.e. fancy Consultant talk for ‘Playing with it’) as quickly as I can, had my old PC die on me and been also sitting back and thinking of how far Microsoft has come in the past few years.
Windows 10 is already getting very positive reviews (with little downside) from many including myself and this is even more confirmation that it’s going to help turnaround Microsoft in the Operating System space.
I have always been a Microsoft, PC supporter and usually have poked fun at Apple. For a few years, Apple really owned the market. I use to have some iPhones, had an iPad and spent countless dollars on iTunes.
Interestingly now that Apple really sucks and putting aside my bias for the moment – people on both the Pro-Apple & Pro-PC side of the fence have both pointed out Apple’s loss in innovation. This was very evident from the tragic death of Steve Jobs (who I think is awesome) and nothing really ‘new & impressive’ has come out. Many including myself have even described Apple as no longer a ‘Technology Company’ but a ‘Marketing Company’.
I think Microsoft really sucked for a few years and really got left behind in many core areas. Apple & Google really lead the way and a few years ago, thinks really changed when Bill Gates got back into the company and put in new competent leadership.
Since this turnaround, Microsoft have released a stack of impressive winners (far outweighing their losers). Windows 10, Buying Minecraft, XBOX One, Microsoft 365, The Surface 3 & Surface 3 Pro, Windows Gaming, Acquiring and Upgrading Skype etc – these are just some of the awesome wins that have come out of them.
Microsoft have become a very ‘Hot’ company and in a way I feel rewarded for being a ‘Faithful Follower’ those many years. I think Windows 10 is a hit and we are going to see Microsoft really take over again and own the Market in many areas where they may have almost been squeezed out.
My big lesson from this is the ‘Rise & Fall & Rise & Fall’ that many companies go through. I have done the same thing and for me – I always want to be pushing the ‘Innovation Wagon’ so I stay in front and keep growing. It’s great that Microsoft is making a comeback – but wouldn’t it have been great if Microsoft didn’t slip so far behind?
Sure, you get people overtaking each other here and there – but being left behind is never a good move. So here’s to Microsoft, the Windows Team & Bill Gates – if I was them, I would be very happy right now….
